Roxborough State Park (CO)
One of my Flickr contacts turned me on to a park that is about 20 minutes from our apartment. Roxborough is a gorgeous landscape of sandstone outcroppings nestled in a grassy valley just southwest of Denver.
As you can see, the formations are like the familiar sandstone at Red Rocks Park in Morrison, CO and Garden of the Gods in CO Springs. The formations aren't as mammoth in stature but the rolling hills and grassy slopes are placid and beautiful.
Elle and I hiked on a 2.2 mile trail that was well established and maintained. She toddled along for about a mile before getting in her backpack to ride the rest of the way (and take a nap). We met families on picnic, birdwatchers and another aspiring photographer.
I don't normally share my photos on Vox, but I'm pretty jazzed about how these came out.
If you're planning a trip to central Colorado this summer or fall, you may want to include a day hiking through the rocks at Roxborough.
And if you're interested in a vicarious trip to CO via my photographic explorations, check out my Flickr photostream:
Cheers!
